How to check a StudyPass ID
A StudyPass ID is a digital student card issued by the student's own college. Checking one takes about five seconds.
-
It's live
The colour strip moves and the clock shows the time now, to the second. A screenshot or photo is frozen.
-
The photo matches
Compare the photo with the person in front of you. College staff check every photo before a card goes live.
-
"Valid until" is in the future
If the date has passed, the card has expired.
-
Full-time price? Look for the Full-time badge
The badge shows only when the college records the student as studying full-time. No badge, no full-time price.
-
In doubt? Scan the QR code
Use your phone's camera. A genuine card opens a green Verified student page from the student's college, on a studypass.app address. No app needed.
What the check page looks like
The page comes from the student's college and shows its name. It only ever shows the student's name, photo, study load, expiry date and the last 4 digits of the card number.
Red flags
- The strip doesn't move, or the clock is frozen or wrong.
- The photo doesn't match the person.
- "Valid until" has passed.
- The student won't open the app or let you scan the code.
- The scan page is amber or red, or isn't on a studypass.app address.
If something's wrong
Don't give the student price. Stay polite: the student can sort it out with their college. Never keep a student's phone.
